A Bloody Day In Baghdad
120 Iraqi Christians making their way to pray,
On the 31/10/10, on a sunny Baghdad day,
In that church all singing hymns of love and joy,
For the old, young, rich and poor to enjoy,
To be at one with almighty god above,
And to spread the message of help and love.
Suddenly captured in this holy place they lay,
Captured by those with the intention to slay,
Those innocent lives, why taken them?
Why must it be them you condemn?
Those good people ever aiming to serve,
Is this the reward from life they deserve?
To be scared for their very existence, and those of their children too,
I swear you are evil, I swear shame on you…
In the end, they go to heaven, you go to hell,
Ever trapped in hell’s prison cell,
To reflect your evil actions in life,
And all the times you placed others in strife,
We will never forget the Christians who died in Iraq that day,
In our minds… ever will you stay…
Being a Mandaean.
Being a Mandaean for me is a gift bestowed,
To guide me along life’s ever winding road,
It teaches continual knowledge and eternal peace,
From the day I was born till the day that I cease,
It teaches honest values and belief,
To deal with life’s difficulties and all of its grief,
It is a religion unique in its thought,
To my heart great happiness has it brought,
So complex yet so very pure and plain,
It helps wash away life’s harshest pain,
To leave you with nothing but a rainbow in your heart,
From the day I BELIEVED till the day I depart.
I’m under no illusion, I know it’s not easy,
And I know there are aspects which make me uneasy,
There are elements of our religion that must be changed,
The parts many now consider deranged,
Like the checking of a woman or the conversion debate,
In the end its these things that decide our fate,
However, it’s something wonderful, magnificent and our own,
So let's not sit here, belittle and moan,
For we are all of brothers of a single mother,
And for eternity will we love one another,
So have faith and believe,
Love, live and never deceive,
Only then will we have eternal peace,
And life’s misery and anger cease.
I’m proud to be a Mandaean and rightly so,
So, tell me, which way will your heart go?
